rain moving in, was cloudy and cool all day, but still no rain as such. we’re in a drought. the guys all packed up and left around lunchtime. guy in charge of water project, stenographer, and city rep came out to see us at 2. i’d called a few days ago about our water meter, they came out to see the cracks and the meter and to tell us they would talk to the contractor who would send one of their guys around to find out what was wrong. they didn’t promise us relief on our water bill, however. husband bought a thing of cashews to give to forman, wrapped it up with a bow. i took more pictures of the plans, asked him for a set, as an xmas present.

digging up the street

the road crews out front were there in force today. cutting up the street in several places. they cut deep, right across the road, and guys got down in there until only above the waists showed in the holes. lots of earth movers and dumptrucks, lots of loaders bouncing back and forth at top speed with gravel in their maws. lots of noise all day long. out back they were putting planking over the vault and the basement, extending the build this way after so long building straight up.

the road crews out f/ront are back. they came thru posting no parking anytime signs, which were ignored by all. so they came thru with letters for everybody’s maibox listng the street closures. ahr street, and all the others in the sewer separation project, are scheduled to be closed from january 2 to february 2. they’re supposed to connect the pipes, then resod, rebrick the sidewalks, repave the entire street. it could take some time, or it could happen all at once, so they promise. today they cut lines across the road.

out back they kept laying little bitty squares of planking up on the roof, i assume around the elevator shaft. lots of men on every floor. they’re cinderblocking the entire east wall without window breakes, which means they’re planning on extending the building to the corner when they finish buying up the properties. we heard they’re planning a publix a few blocks down toward the middle of town. how nice.
