putting up the second floor with thin vertical beams

forman is here, don’t know what they’re doing. there are red iron i-beams on the ground in front of the crane, and someone delivered a flatbed full of something. it’s the 2nd floor with wooden railings, then cement columns and then red i-beams and then steel columns going up, a fraction of the size. and taller. there’s flags up on the ramp to mark the line between nextor and us, but they haven’t designated the back line, and the dirt hill comes too close to my tree for them to leave it that way. i requested this from the arborist, but as usual he was more interested in the other things going on.

took all day to warm up, but it’s quite pleasant now. started out at 54 this morning.

Wednesday 6/7

sawing noises, but light, or else muffled. earth moving things with the mini dozer, nothing on the yards because they’re parking lot for the earthmovers. gravel piled up against the back of the parking deck on the ramp, which is now gravel covered, so i’ve got to have a talk with forman about the property line grade. don’t know what the gravel piled up is for.

very cold at night. no clouds.

thin vertical beamsednesday 6/7

went on a road trip for the last week. while i was gone, tuesday and wednesday, they put up a bunch more red iron cross beams and started sticking thinner columns of steel on top of the cast cement ones. they had the boom pump in today and they poured more cement on the elevator shaft. i also saw forms this morning around the edge of the second floor, at the edge of the plank. the back yards of the other neighbors are being used as storage for the earthmovers and the forms truck. they’ve put gravel on the alley from cyde street and were doing cement pipes down toward maine st.

out front, the connection out into the middle of maine has been covered by huge metal plates for days. they’ve finished going down bissey with the excavators, and now they’ve got maine from the corner of bissey all one way cones and flagmen who happen to be cops.

the weather’s gone cooler, in the 70s in the day and down to chilly at night. blue skies all day. on wednesday it was cloudy with blue skies, and rained in the evening, a wonderful downpour of a thunderstorm for a few minutes.
